Jakarta (Rifyu.com) – The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD said he would continue to monitor and oversee the alleged corruption case involving the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate as a suspect.

He also asked the public to wait for the legal and judicial processes to proceed on this legal case.

“So, have faith and wait for the judicial process in this case that is facing Mr. Plate. As the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, I will continue to monitor and oversee,” said Mahfud in an upload on his official Instagram social media account @mohmahfudmd, as quoted in Jakarta, Thursday.

In the same upload, Mahfud also said that the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) had been careful in handling the BAKTI Kominfo corruption case, including finally naming Johnny as a suspect.

“I know that this case has been carefully investigated and investigated because it always intersects with accusations of politicization. One slight mistake can be accused of politicizing law in a political year,” he added.

Therefore, he believes the Attorney General’s Office has obtained two strong pieces of evidence to establish Johnny G. Plate as a suspect.

If the Prosecutor’s Office delays naming the suspect, when they have two strong pieces of evidence, he added, then that would actually be against the law.

“If you are sure that at least two pieces of evidence are sufficient, the Attorney General’s Office will not name anyone as a suspect; but if you already have two pieces of evidence that are strong enough and are still being postponed on the grounds of maintaining political conduciveness, then that is against the law. If you have two pieces of evidence are enough, (then) the legal status should have been increased,” explained Mahfud.

In Pekanbaru, Riau, Wednesday night (17/5), Mahfud also conveyed that the Attorney General’s Office had been quite thorough and repeatedly examined allegations of corruption by BAKTI Kominfo before naming Johnny G. Plate as a suspect.

He said that the determination of the suspect would take a long time because investigators needed time to re-check and study the case so that the determination of the suspect Johnny would not become a political issue.

“I say, be careful, this has a political element, it intersects; but if the law has stated that there is evidence, two pieces of evidence are sufficient, and you are sure that being brought to court can prove it, immediately suspect a suspect. In fact, this has been a bit delayed for one or two weeks yes, because it is being investigated again so that it is not wrong, so it does not become a political issue,” said Mahfud MD.

The investigator for the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the AGO, Wednesday, named Johnny G. Plate a suspect in the alleged corruption case for the BAKTI BTS procurement project for the Ministry of Communication and Informatics for the 2020-2022 period.

The head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General’s Office, Ketut Sumedana, when announcing the suspects, said that state losses due to corruption amounted to IDR 8.32 trillion.
