Balikpapan (Rifyu.com) – The number of hotspots in East Kalimantan Province on Friday dropped to 23 locations, from 52 locations the previous day, based on a report by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Balikpapan Station.

“We have informed the distribution of the 23 detected hotspots to related parties for further action,” said the Coordinator for Data and Information of the Class I Meteorological Station Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman (SAMS) Sepinggan BMKG Balikpapan Diyan Novrida in Balikpapan, Friday.

The 23 hotspots were monitored today from 01.00 to 17.00 WITA and were immediately informed to the relevant agencies, including the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) both at the East Kalimantan Province and respective regency levels so that they would receive immediate treatment.

The previous day (Thursday, 4/5), 52 hotspots were detected, he said, spread across five districts, namely Paser Regency with 2 points/locations, West Kutai with 2 locations, East Kutai with 38, Kutai Kartanegara with 6, and in Berau Regency it was spread in 4 locations.

There are 52 hotspots that have been extinguished after handling them, while 23 hotspots monitored today are at different coordinate points, although some are still in the same district or sub-district.

The 23 hotspots monitored today are spread across three districts, namely East Kutai Regency with 15 locations, Kutai Kartanegara with 2 locations, and in Berau Regency there are 6 hotspots.

The details are 2 hotspots in Kutai Kartanegara, both of which are in Loa Kulu District, all of which have a medium level of trust.

Then 15 hotspots in East Kutai were spread over three sub-districts, namely Bengalon Sub-district with 7 points, Kaubun with 3 points, and North Sangatta District were detected in 5 locations, all of which had a medium level of confidence.

In Berau District, 6 hotspots were detected, spread across three sub-districts, namely Sambaliung District 3 locations, Teluk Bayur 2, and Segah District 1 location, all of which also have a medium level of trust.

“We urge all parties to work together to prevent fires, such as not throwing cigarette butts carelessly, not setting fires while managing land, and other activities that can trigger fires because in a number of areas there is still the potential for heat,” he said.

Actually, this month in East Kalimantan is still entering the rainy season, but he admits there is a chance that in a few days there will be no consecutive rains in a number of areas, so this will result in dry biomass and prone to land and forest fires (karhutla), so all parties must take care of each other and watch out for each other.
