Jakarta (Rifyu.com) – An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 occurred in Mentawai Islands Regency, West Sumatra (West Sumatra), early Tuesday morning.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) through its official website informed that the earthquake occurred at 03.00 WIB.
The location of the earthquake was 0.93 South Latitude (LS) – 98.39 East Longitude (BT) with a depth of 84 kilometers.
While the epicenter was 177 kilometers (km) northwest of the Mentawai Islands.
BMKG issues an early warning that an earthquake has the potential to cause a tsunami.
In the same location an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 occurred on Sunday (23/4) at 04.17 WIB with the epicenter being at sea or 177 kilometers northwest of the Mentawai Islands. The earthquake was at a depth of 19 kilometers.
