Tangerang (Rifyu.com) – The Ministry of Finance clarified regarding the restrictions on luggage for flight passengers by the Customs and Excise at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten.
“We convey clarification. There was no statement from the head of the BC Soetta Office regarding restrictions on luggage in the form of used clothes at Soetta Airport,” said Ministry of Finance spokesman Yustinus Prastowo via his personal Twitter account monitored by Rifyu.com on Wednesday (22/03).
According to him, if the statement by the head of Soetta Airport Customs explained that the restriction was aimed at import quota goods from companies passing through the port, but no restrictions were placed on passengers’ luggage at Soetta Airport.
“The issue of importing used clothes is not in Soetta (airport). Pak Gatot answered in general, it was by the company through the port, so the two facts seem to be a series,” said Yustinus.
He also mentioned that the Soetta Customs in responding to the imported clothing goods there were no restrictions, only restrictions. The restrictions are adjusted to the rules of the relevant ministries, namely the Ministry of Commerce.
Meanwhile, Head of Customs and Excise at Soetta Airport Gatot Sugeng Wibowo added that in terms of the import of used clothing, it was only applied to companies in the form of an import approval (PI) or often known as an import quota on textile imports.
“These restrictions are imposed on companies in the form of import approvals or often known as import quotas on the import of textiles and textile products,” he said.
President Joko Widodo has emphasized the prohibition of the imported used clothing business or what is often called it thrifting, because the business disrupts the domestic textile industry.
Jokowi also asked related institutions to trace and follow up on the business of importing used clothes.
Some of the business people have been arrested. “I have ordered them to look for it properly and a day or two have found many,” said Jokowi, Wednesday (15/3).
