Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan asked business actors in the iron and steel sector to strengthen synergy and cooperation with the government to develop the national iron and steel sector.
“I hope this business forum can strengthen cooperation between associations, business actors, and the government. We must absorb the use of domestic iron and steel products and encourage Indonesia’s exports of iron and steel,” said the Trade Minister in his statement in Jakarta, Thursday.
The Minister of Trade conveyed this while attending the virtual The Indonesia Iron & Steel Industry Association (IISIA) Business Forum 2022 which was held in Surabaya.
The Trade Minister said that synergies must continue to be built to absorb domestic iron and steel products while increasing Indonesia’s iron and steel exports.
Indonesia’s iron and steel exports from January to October 2022 reached a convincing figure of US$23.16 billion.
Iron and steel commodities are ranked third in Indonesia’s exports with a value of US$23.16 billion or nearly 10 percent of Indonesia’s exports.
The Minister of Trade appreciated the implementation of the business forum and said that the existence of IISIA was very important as a forum and parent for all national iron and steel producers from upstream to downstream industries.
“I warmly welcome the holding of this business forum in bringing together the synergy of stakeholders and strengthening the national iron and steel industry and trade,” said the Trade Minister.
According to the Minister of Trade, iron and steel are the main components that are needed to support the National Strategic Program which is currently intensively developing infrastructure, encouraging downstream and manufacturing industries, as well as building a new capital city.
