“The benefit of this National Championship is that we can see the number of athletes. As coaches, we can immediately see their performance. In the future, we will also discuss with other coaches to provide an assessment,” said PP PBSI Head of Development and Achievement Division Rionny Mainaky at a press conference in Jakarta, Thursday.

Rionny explained, specifically the winner of the 2022 PBSI National Championship individual number has the right to take part in the National Selection (seleknas) program which also takes place at the Cipayung National Pelatnas for three days on December 19-21.

In addition to the national championship winners, other participants also have the opportunity to compete in the 2022 National Secretariat armed with rankings and points earned from domestic tournaments.

All of these designs are also inseparable from PP PBSI’s hopes for the sustainable regeneration of national team athletes. It is hoped that through the return of the national championship after a two year absence due to the pandemic, the Cipayung National Training Center can gain new staff to drive the Red and White Squad.

“We are indeed accelerating the regeneration process which was hampered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One of them is by looking at the actions of potential young athletes at national championships,” he added.

Meanwhile, Head of Regional Achievement Development Sub-Division of PP PBSI Ricky Soebagdja explained the other objectives of the 2022 National Championship. Apart from being a venue for searching for prospective national athletes, the 2022 PBSI National Championship is also an indicator of the extent to which the regional badminton development map is developing and progressing.

“From this National Championship, you will see how the map of badminton development and achievements in Indonesia is. Are the provinces in Java still dominated or have other provinces that are capable of giving birth to potential players have started to emerge,” Ricky explained.

The implementation of the 2022 National Championship at the Cipayung National Training Center is also inseparable from the committee’s strategy to boost the enthusiasm and motivation of the participants when competing.
According to Ricky, not all Indonesian badminton players have the opportunity to practice at the Cipayung National Training Center. Therefore PBSI also wanted to provide an opportunity for 628 participants to try out the atmosphere and atmosphere of the national training field.

“I think it’s good for the spirit of athletes to be encouraged to be part of the National Training Center, so they want to perform with their best abilities,” concluded the gold medalist at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
